Average Speeds Help
MDOT has several traffic sensors installed in Metro Detroit highways. The Average Speeds Page displays the average speeds registered by these traffic sensors.

Highway Column: A description of the area where the traffic sensor is located.

Trend Column: The value for the Trend column is calculated based on the traffic flow at each sensor over the previous half hour. Using these calculations, a determination is made whether traffic is Steady, gradually speeding up Speeding Up Gradually or slowing Slowing Gradually, or significantly speeding up Speeding Up Significantly or slowing Slowing Significantly.

Average Speeds Column: Averages are calculated and displayed for the last ten minutes, half hour, hour and two hours.
