- The air service demand information (passengers, cargo and mail) accessible through this web page is derived from data submitted monthly by those airports with scheduled air carrier service, and stored in the department's Transportation Management System (TMS).
- All data shown for the current year is considered draft and subject to change until February 28th of the following year. This is to allow for final certification by local agencies and MDOT.
- To be identified as having scheduled air carrier service, a facility must show scheduled passenger service by at least one flight, on at least five different days each week. Scheduled flights are those listed in a computer, published or printed format and in an accessible or person portable form.
- In addition, air cargo figures for Detroit Willow Run Airport (YIP) are included in the totals due to that facility's importance to the Metropolitan Detroit area and Michigan.
- Passengers, cargo, and mail embarking on aircraft are said to be enplaning, while those disembarking are said to be deplaning.
- Passengers traveling on scheduled air services are referred to as Scheduled Passengers, while those traveling on charter or other for hire air services are referred to as Supplemental Passengers.
